A brief history
The name comes from the suburbs surrounding the old city of Toronto a century ago with homes built by immigrant workers for their families. Originally, the fathers and husbands would build temporary shacks in a corner of the property, later building permanent homes in the middle when finances allowed. One view of the Shacklands is preserved in Lawren Harris’ January Thaw, Edge of Town.
It is with this do it yourself spirit that we brew our contemporary interpretations of classic beer styles.
